In 1952, at the age of just 25 years old, Elizabeth II took the throne. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female head of state in history.
As a queen, Elisabeth certainly had power, but she also showed strength through her domestic and international leadership; she led the UK through its recovery from World War II, through several economic crises and a pandemic.
