In the late 1990s, anonymous French artist Invader began installing ceramic mosaics of Space Invaders, the pixelated characters from the iconic 1978 video game, throughout the streets of Paris. Over time, he expanded his visual universe to include Pac-Man ghosts and other well-known 8-bit characters. Today, his distinctive works can be found in cities across the globe, from Los Angeles to Kathmandu.

In addition to his clandestine street art installations, Invader has created mosaics on materials such as Perspex panels, plywood, and book covers. His practice also includes paintings, drawings, and screen prints, all characterized by his recognizable pixelated aesthetic. Works by Invader regularly achieve six-figure prices on the secondary market.

In 2019, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti brought one of Invader’s works to the International Space Station, placing his art approximately 248 miles above Earth. Invader has also exhibited internationally, with shows in cities including Los Angeles, Paris, Brussels, and Hong Kong.
