For Michael Kvium, the paintings of the grotesque dark side are always an attempt to say something honest about being human. You are rarely in doubt when you see a Kvium. His pictures are so characteristic angular and distorted that they do not look like anything else. The people he depicts are far from a common beauty ideology. Still, a lot of people have taken a liking to Michael Kvium's art. In 1970 he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, from which he graduated in 1985. The same year he formed the performance group ‘Værst’ together with Christian Lemmerz. And since then, Kvium has gained international fame.
